Job Title: Junior/Associate Controller
Location: On‑site (Two Businesses)
Employment Type: Full‑Time
Reports To: Senior Controller / Ownership
About the Role
We are seeking a motivated, tech‑savvy Junior/Associate Controller to oversee the financial operations of two businesses:
- A home building & construction company (4 employees)
- A cattle farming operation (4 employees)
This role is ideal for someone entrepreneurial, organized, and eager to take ownership of all financial and administrative functions while working closely with a senior controller.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Management & Bookkeeping
- Manage full‑cycle bookkeeping for both businesses.
- Maintain the general ledger, chart of accounts, and all financial records.
- Handle accounts payable and accounts receivable.
- Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, vendor accounts, and loan statements.
- Manage cash flow tracking and provide weekly updates.
Payroll & Employee Administration
- Process payroll for both businesses (hourly, salary, and any bonuses).
- Track employee hours, deductions, and benefits.
- Maintain payroll records and ensure compliance with government requirements.
Financial Reporting & Analysis
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Manage job costing, project budgets, and cost tracking for the construction business.
- Track cattle inventory, feed costs, purchase/sale records, and profitability for the farm.
- Provide variance analysis and financial insights to ownership.
Legal & Administrative Paperwork
- Prepare and file government remittances (HST, WSIB, payroll taxes, etc.).
- Maintain corporate records and assist with compliance documentation.
- Coordinate insurance renewals, vendor contracts, and corporate filings.
- Ensure both businesses meet legal and reporting deadlines.
Operational Support & Systems Improvement
- Work directly with the senior controller to streamline systems and improve internal controls.
- Implement or optimize accounting software, digital tools, and automated workflows.
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and annual planning.

Qualifications
Required:
- Post‑secondary education in Finance, Accounting, Business, or similar field.
- Experience with bookkeeping, payroll, and financial reporting.
- Strong Excel/Google Sheets skills.
- Clear communication skills and ability to work with small teams.
Preferred:
- Experience in construction accounting or agriculture/livestock operations.
- Familiarity with QuickBooks
- Knowledge of job costing or inventory accounting.

Pay: $72,249.29-$136,908.03 per year
