Established in 2020, Vitacore is driven by our mission to develop transformative products and services that address critical global issues, ensuring ethical practices and effective outcomes for the betterment of humankind and the planet. Our journey began with a focus on the healthcare sector, where we became leaders in manufacturing recycling single-use protective equipment. Today, we apply our expertise and innovative spirit to broader challenges, developing advanced technologies, sustainable practices, and innovative manufacturing processes that redefine what is possible across various industries.
About the Role:
Vitacore is seeking a motivated and technically strong Electrical Engineering Co-op Student to join our R&D team in Burnaby for a 4- or 8-month term starting May 2026.
This role is a hybrid PCB design and hardware validation position, ideal for a student who enjoys hands-on lab work, structured electrical testing, and debugging complex systems. You will support the validation and refinement of multiple custom PCB modules, working across power electronics, analog front-end circuitry, communication interfaces, and signal integrity verification.
Responsibilities include:
You will support structured validation and iterative improvement of several internally developed PCB systems. Your work will include:
- Performing electrical validation of power conversion modules and high-power capacitor interfaces.
- Testing voltage regulation, load behavior, and current limits under defined operating conditions.
- Validating signal scaling, mapping, clipping behavior, and measurement accuracy.
- Verifying CAN and I2C communication integrity and troubleshooting bus faults.
- Validating PWM signal integrity, duty cycle behavior, and driver response.
- Testing optoelectronic subsystems including LED drivers and photodiode-based sensing circuits.
- Using oscilloscopes, DMMs, logic analyzers, and programmable bench supplies to diagnose and resolve hardware issues.
- Debugging regulation errors, communication faults, signal integrity issues, and timing discrepancies.
- Supporting multilayer PCB design using PCB design software such as EasyEDA, Altium, or KiCad.
- Assisting with schematic reviews, layout refinements, and BOM updates.
- Preparing technical documentation, test plans, and validation reports.
- Supporting compliance documentation and test preparation for CSA, UL, and CE standards.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled in a Bachelorβs degree in Electrical Engineering (2nd year or above).
- Prior PCB design experience (schematic capture and layout).
- Experience working with high-power capacitors or power electronics systems.
- Experience with optoelectronic components (e.g., photodiodes, LEDs, optical sensing systems).
- Strong understanding of analog and digital electronics.
- Comfortable working hands-on with lab instrumentation (oscilloscope, DMM, logic analyzer).
- Familiarity with Altium Designer, KiCad, or similar PCB design tools.
- Experience with circuit simulation tools such as LTspice or PSpice.
- Exposure to CAN and I2C communication protocols.
- Experience developing and debugging embedded firmware in Arduino IDE for ESP32 platforms; strong C++ proficiency for peripheral control (PWM, ADC, CAN, I2C) and hardware validation support.
- Strong troubleshooting and debugging skills.
- Ability to interpret schematics and multilayer PCB layouts.
- Previous co-op, research, or hardware development experience is considered an asset.
Compensation:
- $23β$26 per hour, depending on experience.
- 4- or 8-month co-op term (May 2026 start).
- Full-time, onsite in Burnaby.
- Participation in company events throughout the term.
