Position Overview
Island Technical Installations (ITI) is seeking a motivated Electrical Engineer-in-Training (EIT) to support our Commissioning Authority (CxA) services across utility, industrial, and mission-critical infrastructure projects throughout North America. This role works directly under senior commissioning authority leadership supporting planning, coordination, documentation, and execution of electrical commissioning activities from design review through energization and turnover.

This position offers exposure to high-voltage systems, protection and control, power system equipment, and large-scale infrastructure commissioning.

Key Responsibilities:
Commissioning Support

  • Assist with development of commissioning plans and procedures

  • Support review of drawings, specifications, and vendor documentation

  • Participate in commissioning meetings and coordination activities

  • Assist with development of inspection and test plans (ITPs)

  • Support tracking of commissioning progress and deficiencies

  • Assist in compiling commissioning documentation and reports

  • Support turnover documentation and final commissioning packages

Technical Support

  • Review protection and control documentation

  • Assist with equipment commissioning verification

  • Support field verification activities

  • Assist with functional testing coordination

  • Support data collection and documentation management

  • Track issues, RFIs, and resolution status

Project Coordination

  • Interface with contractors, vendors, engineers, and owners

  • Support schedule tracking and milestone verification

  • Maintain document control and commissioning logs

  • Assist with progress reporting

Travel & Work Environment:

This role includes travel to project sites across North America.

Work will include a mix of office and field responsibilities, with no guaranteed split between the two. The balance of office versus field work will vary depending on project requirements and commissioning phase.

Field work may include:

  • Substations

  • Industrial facilities

  • Data centers

  • Generation facilities

  • Construction sites

Travel duration and frequency will vary by project.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering

  • Registered or eligible for registration as an EIT

  • Strong interest in power systems and commissioning

  • Strong organizational and documentation skills

  • Ability to read electrical drawings and schematics

  • Strong communication skills

  • Willingness to travel

Preferred

  • Co-op or internship experience in power systems

  • Exposure to substations or industrial power systems

  • Familiarity with protection and control concepts

  • Experience with technical documentation

  • Knowledge of commissioning processes
