Applications are invited for a Full Time Junior Accountant
Wild Rose School Division is seeking a Junior Accountant to join its Finance team based out of the Division Office in Rocky Mountain House, Alberta. This full-time position will report to the Associate Superintendent, Business and Finance.

The Candidate

We are looking for a detail-oriented and proactive Junior Accountant to join our finance team. The successful candidate will be responsible for complex reconciliations, monthly/annually financial reporting and for the full cycle of accounts payable and receivable. The ideal candidate brings a natural sense of inquiry to their work—someone who enjoys looking beyond the data to understand the story behind the numbers. Lastly, the successful candidate will be committed to excellence, continuous improvement and will demonstrate effective technology skills.

Formal Education

  • Business Degree or Diploma in accounting and/or finance or a related field.
  • If applicable, this role will provide the practical experience requirements necessary for CPA certification.

Experience

  • One to two years working experience in a finance or accounting role.
  • Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience, which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform the position may be considered.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform monthly reconciliations and analysis for various accounts such as School Generated Funds and Mastercard.
  • Conduct daily verification of bank accounts. Perform deep-dive analysis on deposits to ensure correct coding and business justification.
  • Manage the intake, verification, and departmental routing of invoices. Collaborate with senior finance staff to audit A/P batches for accuracy, timing, and compliance with organizational spending policies
  • Investigate variances within the General Ledger, ensuring all adjustments are supported by adequate documentation and authorized according to internal control protocols
  • Lead the collection, compilation, and entry of third-party invoicing and deposits.
  • Regulatory reporting to various government departments (e.g. T4As, annual charity return, and financial statements)
  • Internal control compliance and maintenance
  • Collaborate with senior finance staff to establish effective financial processes, procedures and controls across the Division
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

This is a year round exempt position to commence as soon as possible.

Salary will be based on the successful candidate’s education and experience. In addition, the division offers a comprehensive benefits and pension package.
