Position Summary

Madsen Controls & Engineering is seeking a  Field Service Coordinator / Junior Engineer  to join our team in Edmonton for a  12-month maternity leave coverage position .

This role is responsible for coordinating field service activities and supporting our technical service team while maintaining compliance with internal safety and customer site requirements. The successful candidate will work closely with project managers, field technicians, customers, and our engineering group to ensure efficient service delivery across Canada, with a primary focus on Western Canada.

This position provides valuable exposure to industrial control systems, power generation equipment, and field service operations. The candidate will also assist the engineering team in multiple aspects, including technical documentation, system troubleshooting, and supporting project execution. Depending on performance and business needs, there may be an opportunity following the contract term to transition into a permanent technical or engineering-focused role within the company.

Ideal candidates include recent graduates of Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering or EIT who either are already APEGGA registered or qualify for registration. Candidates that have experience in similar roles that posses skill with industrial engine / turbine or power systems controls design and commissioning will also be considered.

This role is primarily office based but there may be availability for the employee to participate in site visits, electrical panel testing, assisting engineers in performing customer witnessed FAT testing and related activities should the need arise.

Key Responsibilities

Field Service Coordination & Scheduling

  • Coordinate daily and weekly schedules for field service technicians based on job priority, technician availability, and geographic location.
  • Work with project managers to plan and dispatch technicians to customer sites.
  • Monitor job progress and adjust schedules as needed to meet project timelines.
  • Serve as a primary point of communication between customers, field technicians, and internal teams.
  • Ensure required equipment, tools, and materials are available for scheduled service work.
  • Track technician hours and compare against project budgets where required.

Engineering Support

  • Assist engineering in preparing technical documentation, schematics, and drawings.
  • Support engineers in system troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and project execution.
  • Help with data collection and reporting from field activities to inform engineering design decisions.
  • Collaborate with engineers to develop solutions for operational or field challenges.

Project & Service Administration

  • Track service documentation including technician timesheets, materials used, and service reports.
  • Assist with compiling documentation required for customer invoicing.
  • Maintain accurate records within scheduling and work order management systems.
  • Assist management with reporting related to service operations and technician productivity.

Safety & Site Compliance

  • Coordinate site safety orientations and ensure technicians meet customer access requirements.
  • Manage technician access through customer and third-party safety portals such as ISNetworld, ComplyWorks, and Avetta.
  • Track completion of safety training and certifications for field personnel.
  • Support incident reporting and safety documentation as required.
  • Assist the Safety Manager with administrative duties and promote a strong safety culture within field operations.

Qualifications

Required

  • Diploma or degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology or Business Administration, or a related field, or equivalent experience in field service coordination may be considered.
  • Preferably have experience in dispatching, scheduling, or coordinating field service operations, or relevant technical/engineering internship or industry experience.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word).
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced service environment.

Assets

  • Experience with contractor safety portals such as ISNetworld, ComplyWorks, or Avetta.
  • Familiarity with industrial control systems, generators, engines, pumps, or power generation equipment.
  • Understanding of job costing, invoicing, and materials reconciliation.
  • Previous experience working with industrial or energy sector customers.

Additional Information

Madsen Controls & Engineering is only seeking candidates who currently reside in Canada. At this time, we are not considering applicants requiring relocation from outside the country. Own transportation is a must as public transit is not available near office location.

Pay: $30.00-$35.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40.0 per week
