Hammond Power Solutions Inc. is a global manufacturer headquartered in Guelph, Ontario, Canada. HPS has grown to become the leader in North America in the custom design and manufacture of dry type transformers. For the past century, HPS has grown to deliver electrical power solutions to global markets and provides solutions for complex applications like, mining, rectifier, drives, traction, wind, solar and many other electrical power applications. The world relies on HPS to continually conceive and produce state-of-the-art transformer technology. We currently have an opening for a Helpdesk Technician co-op, come grow with us! This is a 4 to 8 month co-op starting May 2026.

JOB OVERVIEW:

Reporting to the Manager, Information Technology, the helpdesk technician co-op will provide effective helpdesk support to internal and remote users at designated facilities, while supporting and contributing to the IT department goals. They will handle user issues and deploys/maintains IT hardware and infrastructure (desktops/laptops, printers, networking, cabling, etc...). The co-op will provide service either by using the HPS Helpdesk application or via phone, e-mail, Teams or in person to diagnose and repair various system issues and offer assistance.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide frontline technical support (hands-on, telephone, e-mail, Teams, helpdesk) and IT assistance to users at designated facilities.
  • Responsible for purchases, setup, configuration, software/hardware installation & peripherals (this includes PCs, laptops, mobile phones, printers and scanners).
  • Responsible for maintaining appropriate hardware/software inventory and for the procurement of computer equipment, supplies and software licenses.
  • Work with vendors to source equipment and support projects.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Currently enrolled in a Computer Science, Software Engineering or related program.
  • Must have strong knowledge of desktop operation, excellent trouble-shooting abilities, and strong oral and written communication skills to assist with diagnoses and repairs.
  • Experience with a variety of software which includes: MS Office, Edge, Chrome, Cisco Endpoint Security.
  • Operating Systems knowledge: Windows 10/11, Windows Server 2019.
  • Networking knowledge: TCP/IP, Active Directory, Azure, SSH/Telnet, FTP.
  • Must contribute effectively in a team environment and embrace new challenges.
  • Creating and maintaining accurate system and process documentation is a requirement.
  • The individual will be self-motivated and have excellent interpersonal skills.

The following are an asset:

  • Related technical certification (MCSD, CompTia A+).
  • Other useful software skills: ServiceDesk Plus, MS SharePoint, ERP (D365), VMWare, Cisco routers and switches.
  • Experience with hardware: PCs, laptops, thin terminals, smart phones, printers, scanners .

The hourly rate for this position is $22.15.
