FTE: 1.0, 35 hours per week

This is a temporary opportunity that will run from the beginning of May until the end of August.

What does this role look like?

The CBE understands the future of work is flexible. In this role, you are eligible to participate in a flexible work program that allows you to work remotely for up to three days a week. A minimum of two days must be in the office. At certain times, you maybe be required to work in the office more then 2 days per week based on operational requirements.

What will you do?

The purpose of this job is to provide assistance to the Human Resources (HR) Service Unit in all areas of administration and processing of recruitment and staffing, total rewards and employee life events which include, but are not limited to salary / wages, benefits, leaves of absence, resignations and retirements. Students will be assigned to a specific department and responsibilities will reflect those of the team they support.

This job is accountable for activities which may include:

  • Supporting HR team members by verifying information, investigating and responding to questions based on knowledge and resources available and seeking second level support when required.
  • Building positive, productive relationships with co-workers and stakeholders.
  • Working co-operatively with others to foster and support a team environment.
  • Supporting the resolution of identified issues in a timely and efficient manner with a strong emphasis on customer service responses and system data integrity.

This job must participate collaboratively towards positive team productivity and outcomes and must ensure a strict level of confidentiality in all Human Resource matters in compliance with the Freedom of Information and protection of Privacy (POPA) legislation and HR ethics.

General HR Support

  • Adheres to procedures and processes determined by HR leadership to ensure consistency of internal processes.
  • Assesses the nature of inquiries and initiates contact with the appropriate resources as required.

Employee Health

  • Provides support to the Senior Advisor of Employee Well-being in conducting research and developing resources to support employee well-being initiatives.
  • Assists with process documentation and updating templates.

What are we looking for?

Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma
  • Currently enrolled in a post-secondary institution in a health science related discipline (Psychology, Occupational Therapy, Kinesiology, Health Science etc.)
  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of integrated human resources information systems and Microsoft products is an asset

Demonstrated Skills and Competencies

  • Demonstrated proficiency in utilizing computer applications, such as word processing, spreadsheet, database presentation and electronic mail. Must demonstrate accurate keyboarding skills.
  • Demonstrated strong communication skills with a strong customer service orientation.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills combined with tact and diplomacy skills.
  • Demonstrated professionalism and appropriate code of conduct, especially with respect to confidentiality.
  • Ability to create positive relationships, to establish rapport and work effectively in a cross-functional Human Resources team.
  • Demonstrated strong organizational and time management skills, prioritization skills and coordination skills, with demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team.
  • Demonstrated research, logical deduction, problem solving and documentation skills.
  • Demonstrated reliability, dependability and trustworthiness. The ability to work in a rapidly changing work environment with very high and demanding workloads under constant pressure and interruptions combined with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated aptitude for finite detailed work.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and interest in employee and personal well-being.
