The internship within the Capital Markets team offers a hybrid experience combining fixed-income markets and foreign exchange.
The Fixed Income team facilitates and executes Canadian fixed-income securities transactions for institutional client base, contributing to the Bank’s growth through short- and long-term financing solutions.
The intern will also support sales and trading teams by conducting analyses, producing reports, and implementing initiatives designed to support transactions and enhance productivity, thereby gaining hands-on exposure to markets.
He or she will also participate in research and business development projects aimed at identifying new opportunities, while actively contributing to the day-to-day activities of the foreign exchange team.
Responsabilities
Fixed Income:
- Maintain and update spreadsheets related to issuances, transaction notes, and perform ongoing maintenance of the Government Finance Group’s databases.
- Maintain transaction notes and client intentions; develop tools to facilitate allocation and coverage of existing clients.
- Analyze economic data and contribute to the publication of reports for investors and issuers.
- Enhance existing tools to analyze the firm’s positioning and that of the industry, and identify emerging trends.
Foreign Exchange:
- Assist the trading team in analyzing results, activities, and predictive sales indicators by observing correlations and performing projections under the supervision of the team’s lead trader.
- Participate in the collection and management of sales-related data, assisting in the creation of performance reports.
- Support traders in the analysis of sales results, including activities related to various performance programs.
- Support the lead trader and all team members on cross-functional or corporate projects by participating in meetings and providing administrative support.
- Observe and contribute to the development of a business development plan.
Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in a relevant undergraduate or graduate (master’s-level) program
- Intellectual curiosity, determination, and strong initiative
- Ability to rigorously analyze complex problems and break them down into manageable components
- Strong writing and communication skills
- Excellent attention to detail
- Knowledge of fixed-income securities and skills in mathematics or programming are considered an asset
- Proficiency in MS Excel/VBA
- Experience with Bloomberg is desirable and considered an asset
