JOB OVERVIEW:

Fraser Valley Building Supplies (FVBS) is the largest RONA dealer in Western Canada. We are a growing business with 250+ employees across 8 locations in British Columbia.

Reporting to the Controller, the Junior Accountant will support the day-to-day financial accounting and reporting functions of the organization. This role assists with maintaining accurate financial records, preparing reports, and ensuring compliance with established financial policies, procedures, and controls. We are a dynamic business in a growth phase, and we are looking for a candidate who possesses the right attitude and skill set to work well in a team environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain and process accounts payable, including:
  • Reviewing, coding, and entering vendor invoices
  • Ensuring proper approvals are obtained
  • Preparing and processing payments (cheques, EFTs, etc.)
  • Reconciling vendor statements and resolving discrepancies
  • Maintain vendor files, including communicating with vendors
  • Process employee expense reports
  • Assist with the preparation and maintenance of general ledger entries
  • Support month-end and year-end closing processes
  • Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, and other balance sheet accounts
  • Prepare and process journal entries
  • Maintain accurate financial records and documentation
  • Assist in preparing financial reports
  • Support budgeting and forecasting activities
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls, policies, and procedures
  • Assist with audits by preparing and supporting documentation
  • Identify discrepancies and recommend corrective actions
  • Perform other accounting and administrative duties as required

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Accounting Diploma, Degree, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Working towards a CPA designation
  • 1-3 years of accounts payable and/or accounting experience
  • Demonstrated success in a high-volume Accounts Payable setting.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel (e.g., pivot tables, vlookup).
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal, written, and presentation)
  • Proven ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining accuracy and professionalism.
