Overview
Reporting to both the Director of Finance and Intermediate Accountant, the Junior Accountant plays a key role in supporting accounting operations, ensuring accurate financial records, and assisting with day-to-day financial processes.
Responsibilities
- Post and process journal entries to ensure accurate recording of business transactions.
- Maintain and update financial data in the accounting system (QuickBooks Online) to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
- Manage and monitor accounts payable, including invoice processing, payment coordination and vendor follow-ups.
- Assist with accounts receivable, including invoice preparation, billing coordination, and follow-up on outstanding balances.
- Assist with payroll remittances and statutory filings as required.
- Assist in the preparation of balance sheets, income statements, and other financial reports.
- Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, and other balance sheet accounts, and prepare related journal entries.
- Assist in month-end close processes, including accruals, fixed asset depreciation, and other adjusting entries.
- Track and monitor purchase orders for vendors.
- Assist in audit preparation, including gathering and organizing required financial information and supporting documentation
- Communicate with vendors and contractors regarding routine accounting queries.
- Perform other duties as requested by the Director of Finance and Accountant.
Requirements
- Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- 1-2 years of accounting experience preferred
- Proficiency in QuickBooks Online or similar accounting software.
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel (formulas, pivot tables, basic functions).
- Understanding of accounting principles (GAAP or IFRS).
- Attention to detail and high level of accuracy in data entry and financial reporting.
- Strong organizational and time management skills to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
- Analytical and problem-solving skills to identify discrepancies and assist in reconciliation.
- Good communication skills, both written and verbal, for interacting with vendors, customers, and internal teams.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Discretion and integrity in handling confidential financial information.
