Overview

Reporting to both the Director of Finance and Intermediate Accountant, the Junior Accountant plays a key role in supporting accounting operations, ensuring accurate financial records, and assisting with day-to-day financial processes.

Responsibilities

  • Post and process journal entries to ensure accurate recording of business transactions.
  • Maintain and update financial data in the accounting system (QuickBooks Online) to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
  • Manage and monitor accounts payable, including invoice processing, payment coordination and vendor follow-ups.
  • Assist with accounts receivable, including invoice preparation, billing coordination, and follow-up on outstanding balances.
  • Assist with payroll remittances and statutory filings as required.
  • Assist in the preparation of balance sheets, income statements, and other financial reports.
  • Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, and other balance sheet accounts, and prepare related journal entries.
  • Assist in month-end close processes, including accruals, fixed asset depreciation, and other adjusting entries.
  • Track and monitor purchase orders for vendors.
  • Assist in audit preparation, including gathering and organizing required financial information and supporting documentation
  • Communicate with vendors and contractors regarding routine accounting queries.
  • Perform other duties as requested by the Director of Finance and Accountant.

Requirements

  • Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • 1-2 years of accounting experience preferred
  • Proficiency in QuickBooks Online or similar accounting software.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel (formulas, pivot tables, basic functions).
  • Understanding of accounting principles (GAAP or IFRS).
  • Attention to detail and high level of accuracy in data entry and financial reporting.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills to identify discrepancies and assist in reconciliation.
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal, for interacting with vendors, customers, and internal teams.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Discretion and integrity in handling confidential financial information.

This is a newly created position with a salary range of $38,500 to $47,000 per year. The stated range reflects the base compensation for the role and takes into account relevant knowledge, skills, experience, and other factors, in accordance with applicable legislation. Any questions regarding compensation may be directed to Human Resources during the selection process.
