Full Description
About MegaResistors
MegaResistors is a Canadian engineering and manufacturing company that designs and builds power resistor systems for critical infrastructure. Our products protect electrical power systems in hospitals, data centres, manufacturing plants, renewable energy installations, and utility grids across North America and internationally. We are a team of 60 with multiple licensed Professional Engineers on staff, and we handle everything from standard catalogue products to fully custom-engineered solutions across four core areas: neutral grounding, load banks, power quality, and motor control and braking.
The Opportunity
We are looking for a technically sharp Junior Application Engineer to join our growing team. This role is built for recent Electrical Engineering graduates who want to apply their technical knowledge to real-world power systems.
You will become an expert in power resistor technology and work directly with engineers, utilities, EPCs, and industrial operators to solve critical electrical challenges. You will learn how our products protect transformers, generators, and power grids, and help customers select and specify the right solution for their application.
This is a technical role where your engineering knowledge is the product. You will be the trusted technical resource that customers rely on when they need to ground a 13.8 kV system, commission a 2 MW load bank, or protect a wind farm converter from grid faults.
What You Will Do
- Learn MegaResistors' full product portfolio โ neutral grounding resistors, high resistance grounding systems, load banks, harmonic filter resistors, dynamic braking resistors, and more โ and develop the technical depth to advise customers on the right solution
- Work directly with electrical engineers, project managers, and procurement teams at utilities, EPCs, and industrial customers to understand requirements and translate them into product specifications
- Prepare and deliver technical proposals, quotations, and presentations
- Collaborate with our in-house engineering and operations teams to ensure technical accuracy and successful project execution
- Develop and manage customer relationships across a defined territory
- Represent MegaResistors at industry events, trade shows, and customer sites
What We Are Looking For
Required:
- University degree in Electrical Engineering (B.Eng. or B.A.Sc.)
- Strong foundational knowledge of power systems, electrical circuits, and engineering fundamentals
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills โ you can explain a technical concept clearly to both engineers and non-technical stakeholders
- Comfortable with technology โ AI tools, Microsoft Office, and engineering tools are part of your everyday workflow
- Self-motivated and proactive โ you take ownership of your work and follow through without being chased
- Willingness to travel across North America and occasionally internationally
Preferred:
- Co-op or internship experience in power systems, electrical design, or a technical consulting environment
- Exposure to power distribution, renewable energy, or industrial electrical systems
- Familiarity with engineering software such as AutoCAD, MATLAB, or ETAP
- Project or leadership experience that demonstrates initiative (capstone projects, design teams, student organizations)
Your First 6 Months
You will be on-site at our Mississauga facility full-time for your first six months. This is intentional โ you will spend time on the manufacturing floor understanding how our products are built, sit in on engineering reviews, shadow experienced team members on customer calls, and build the product knowledge that will make you effective. After this period, the role transitions to hybrid.
