Canada North Environmental Services (CanNorth) is an established First Nation-owned environmental services firm with an impeccable track record and a highly respected reputation. CanNorth has a strong foundation and proven expertise in environmental assessments and environmental monitoring and is looking to increase its capacity in its Environment Division.

CanNorth is seeking a highly motivated aquatic biologist to work with our talented and innovative multidisciplinary team in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Responsibilities in this position will include:

  • Assisting with aquatic field surveys (such as water, sediment, plankton, benthic invertebrate, and fish sampling) for a variety of project types including baseline studies, Environmental Impact Assessments, Environmental Effects Monitoring, and others
  • Environmental monitoring for a variety of projects including power, pipelines, and construction projects
  • Conducting fish salvages for construction projects
  • Assisting with data management, QA/QC, and analyses and the preparation of technical reports
  • Assisting with field equipment maintenance
  • Liaising with clients and contractors in a professional manner
  • Working with First Nations and regulatory agencies

Applicants should have a degree or diploma related to aquatic biology and good knowledge of aquatic ecology in western Canada as well as techniques used to sample the aquatic environment. The successful applicant must be a team player, highly motivated and organized, able to work with a range of personalities, and have a positive attitude. Applicants must have a valid driver’s license. This position entails a substantial amount of field work; thus, applicants must be willing/able to be away for extended periods of time. Field work will regularly require working in rugged terrain; strong outdoor skills, experience working in remote areas, and experience operating trucks with loaded trailers, ATV’s, boats, and snowmobiles is an asset. Previous experience working at an environmental consulting firm in a field position will be considered a strong asset.
