Beta-Calco is currently looking for a Junior Data Analyst to join our team. You will be working out of our head office located at 1400 Whitehorse Road, Toronto, Ontario, M3J 3A7.

This is a permanent, full-time position, based on 40 hours per week. Further information respecting the position can be found below.

Job Overview

Reporting to the Head of Analytics & Strategy, the Junior Data Analyst will support data-driven decision-making across the organization. This role focuses on building reports and dashboards, conducting ad-hoc analyses and maintaining clean, reliable datasets that teams across the business can act on. The analyst will also contribute to strategic initiatives, including market sizing, competitive analysis and business case development, providing leadership with the analytical foundation needed for sound strategic decisions.

A key differentiator of this role is its emphasis on AI-augmented analytics. The analyst will be expected to leverage modern AI tools, including LLM-based copilots, natural language-to-SQL interfaces and automated insight generation as part of their daily workflow. Over time, the role will expand into cloud-based data infrastructure, predictive modeling and AI-enabled data products. Responsibilities and Duties

Data Analysis & Reporting (Primary Focus)

  • Build, maintain and improve dashboards and recurring reports using BI tools such as Clicdata, Power BI or Looker.
  • Perform ad-hoc analyses to support decision-making across functions including Sales, Marketing, Finance, Operations and Product.
  • Clean, transform and prepare datasets for analysis using SQL and Python.
  • Identify trends, anomalies and opportunities within business data and present findings to stakeholders.
  • Use AI copilots and LLM-based tools to accelerate code writing, data exploration and documentation.
  • Stay current on emerging AI tools and evaluate their applicability to the team’s analytics workflows.
  • Support leadership with market sizing, competitive landscape summaries and business case analyses to inform strategic planning.

Data Systems & AI-Augmented Analytics (Growing Focus)

  • Leverage natural language-to-SQL and natural language-to-code interfaces to query databases and generate insights more efficiently.
  • Experiment with AI-driven approaches such as automated anomaly detection, text analytics and predictive modeling.
  • Assist in building and maintaining cloud-based data pipelines using platforms such as BigQuery, Snowflake or Databricks.
  • Support ETL/ELT processes and data transformation workflows using tools like dbt or equivalent.
  • Contribute to data quality monitoring, documentation and governance practices.
  • Help develop scalable, automated reporting and data delivery solutions.

Collaboration & Communication

  • Partner with cross-functional teams to understand their data needs and deliver actionable insights.
  • Translate analytical findings into clear, non-technical recommendations for business stakeholders.
  • Document methodologies, data definitions and assumptions for transparency and repeatability.

Continuous Learning & Improvement

  • Proactively develop skills in AI/ML, cloud data platforms and modern analytics engineering practices.
  • Identify opportunities to automate repetitive data tasks and improve team efficiency.
  • Participate in knowledge-sharing within the analytics team and broader organization.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Business Analytics, Economics, Engineering or a related field.
  • 0–3 years of professional experience in data analysis or a related field (internship or co-op experience acceptable).
  • Proficiency in SQL for querying and transforming data.
  • Proficiency in Excel and at least one BI/visualization tool (Clicdata, Power BI, Looker or equivalent).
  • Working knowledge of Python for data analysis and scripting.
  • Familiarity with AI-powered analytics tools and a willingness to integrate them into daily workflows.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to explain data findings to non-technical audiences.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented and eager to learn in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred:

  • Exposure to cloud data platforms such as BigQuery, Snowflake or Databricks.
  • Familiarity with data transformation tools like dbt or Dataform.
  • Basic understanding of version control using Git.
  • Interest in or exposure to LLM APIs, prompt engineering, vector databases or RAG-based workflows.
  • Experience with statistical modeling, A/B testing or predictive analytics.
  • Interest in business strategy, market research or management consulting frameworks.

Compensation

We offer a generous compensation package, which includes:

  • Salary: $65,000 per annum based on 40 hours of work per week
  • Vacation: 4% of gross salary per year
  • Benefits: extended medical, dental, life insurance and AD&D
