About MLCAN

MLCAN is a Calgary-based deep-tech startup revolutionizing oil and gas measurement systems. Our flagship product is an AI-powered smart flow meter designed for accurate, real-time multiphase flow measurement at the wellhead. We are currently preparing for field pilot testing and scaling our technology for commercialization.

Job Overview
We are looking for a motivated Junior Data Scientist to join our growing team at MLCAN. In this role, you will support the development of data-driven insights by working with structured and unstructured datasets. You will assist in building and maintaining analytical workflows for pattern detection, modeling, and data exploration. Collaborating with senior team members and engineers, you will help ensure data quality and contribute to the implementation of validation checks within production processes. You will also support ongoing analytical requests, helping translate business questions into clear, actionable insights while continuing to develop your technical and analytical skills., and play a key role in delivering data-driven solutions that have real impact.

Key Responsibilities

  • Clean, process, and analyze structured and unstructured datasets
  • Develop and validate machine learning models
  • Perform exploratory data analysis and communicate insights clearly
  • Collaborate with senior data scientists and engineers on projects
  • Assist in deploying models into production environments
  • Document workflows, models, and findings

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or related field
  • Strong foundation in Python and ML frameworks (e.g., scikit-learn, PyTorch)
  • Solid understanding of machine learning concepts
  • Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Matplotlib, Seaborn, or similar)
  • Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Experience working with time-series data (e.g., signal processing, forecasting, sensor data analysis) is bonus.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $55,000.00-$65,000.00 per year
