Position Description & Scope
Reporting to the VP of Engineering, the Junior Electrical Engineer at Jamesway Chick Master will support the design of electrical systems and collaborate with various departments throughout the product development process.
Position Duties & Responsibilities
· Create and revise electrical schematics and control panel layouts using AutoCAD Electrical and/or SolidWorks Electrical.
· Select PLCs, VFDs, transformers, power devices, sensors, heaters, fans, and field components based on defined load calculations, standards, and UL/CSA/CE requirements.
· Design control panel layouts, including DIN rail placement, wiring duct routing, and thermal considerations, in accordance with internal design practices.
· Support prototype builds and electrical testing activities; assist with certification testing involving third-party agencies.
· Apply working knowledge of NEMA and IP enclosure ratings when specifying enclosures for operating environments.
· Generate and maintain electrical documentation, including wiring schematics, single-line diagrams, BOMs, panel layout drawings, wire and cable schedules, and installation instructions.
· Collaborate with engineering, electrical assembly, supply chain, sales, and service teams to support troubleshooting, design updates, and product improvements.
· Use PLM, ERP, and Microsoft 365 tools to manage engineering data, drawings, and documentation.
· Specify and work with industrial electrical components from suppliers such as ABB, Siemens, Allen-Bradley (Rockwell), Schneider Electric, etc.
Qualifications
· Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma/Technologist in electrical engineering, or a related field.
· 2 – 4 years electrical controls design experience, with familiarity in industrial environments.
· Understanding of PLC programming (ladder logic, structured text) and control systems (nice-to-have).
· Knowledgeable with UL 508A (Industrial Control Panels), NFPA 70 (NEC), and UL 2011/NFPA 79 (Electrical Standard for Industrial Machinery). IEC, EN, CE.
· Team player - able to perform in a team environment.
· Self-starter; requires minimal supervision to accomplish assigned tasks.
· Strong written and verbal communication skills.
· Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
· Demonstrate sound problem-solving skills using engineering practices.
· Ability to take a project from inception to production.
