About the Role
As a Junior Designer, you will assist in creating design packages for various projects, mainly within industrial and mining sectors. You will apply basic CAD skills and engineering principles to produce drawings, models, and documentation, ensuring support for project execution.
Responsibilities
Project Coordination
- Support the design team in project tasks, helping to create design packages.
- Assist in the preparation of project schedules and deliverables.
- Track your own tasks to ensure timely completion and help the team meet project milestones.
Technical Execution and Problem Solving
- Use CAD tools (2D/3D) to develop design drawings.
- Create designs following standard engineering practices and ensure clarity and accuracy in drafts.
- Assist in interpreting sketches and field data to prepare technical drawings.
- Learn to conduct site visits for measurements and reviews.
- Help prepare lists like Bills of Materials (BOMs) and Material Take-Offs (MTOs).
- Identify areas where technical improvements or cost-effective solutions can be applied.
Team Collaboration
- Work closely with team members, sharing knowledge and learning from senior designers.
- Assist in managing your individual tasks and contribute to team deliverables.
Client and Stakeholder Communication
- Participate in design reviews and project meetings.
- Support communication with clients to understand and clarify technical requirements.
Compliance, Quality, and Risk Management
- Learn and assist in reviewing design deliverables for accuracy and adherence to quality standards.
- Help maintain proper documentation and drawings, following internal protocols.
- Support the identification and management of potential risks in the design process.
Continuous Learning and Professional Development
- Keep up to date with industry trends, design tools, and best practices.
- Participate in training and professional development opportunities.
- Engage in learning activities and contribute to the teamβs culture of growth and innovation.
Qualifications
- Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Engineering Design & Drafting Technology, or a related discipline from an accredited institution.
- Minimum 0β4 years of progressive design experience in an industrial or mining environment.
Required Skills
- Basic proficiency in AutoCAD for 2D and 3D design and drafting
- Ability to interpret engineering sketches, verbal instructions, and field data to produce accurate technical drawings
- Familiarity with standard engineering drafting practices, drawing standards, and documentation requirements
- Basic understanding of Bills of Materials (BOMs) and Material Take-Offs (MTOs)
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to drawing accuracy
- Eagerness to learn and receptiveness to feedback and mentorship from senior staff
- Effective written and verbal communication skills for team collaboration
Preferred Skills
- Exposure to 3D modelling tools such as Autodesk Inventor or AutoCAD Plant3D
- Familiarity with Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC) for document management
- Any experience or coursework related to industrial design or drafting
Basic understanding of fabrication requirements and constructability considerations
- Experience or interest in industrial or mining sectors
Compensation & Benefits
Engcomp offers a competitive compensation package reflective of your experience and expertise.
- Base Salary: $56,000 β $75,000 annually, commensurate with experience
