Sun Shade Co. is a growing fabrication and manufacturing shop specializing in custom metal structures, shade systems, and architectural steel components. Position Overview
Sun Shade Co. is looking for a Junior Structural Engineer but more importantly, we’re looking for the right person.
This is not a corporate cubicle role where you run generic models all day and never see what gets built.
You will be modeling real structures that go into parks, schools, and public spaces. You will see your calculations turn into fabricated steel in our shop.
We are implementing and building out our internal structural analysis capability using RISA 3D or RFEM. You will help run it, refine it, and improve how we design.
If you want early responsibility, real project ownership, and exposure from concept through fabrication and installation, this role is for you.
Responsibilities
Build 3D structural models of steel shade structures Apply wind, snow, and load combinations per NBCC Run linear and second order analysis Review deflection, uplift, base reactions, and member utilization Prepare clear calculation packages for engineering review and stamping Work directly with fabrication and drafting to refine designs Help improve internal design standards and workflows
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with a structural focus Strong understanding of structural analysis and steel behavior Comfortable working with engineering software such as RISA 3D or RFEM Ability to read fabrication drawings and think practically Self-directed and capable of working with minimal supervision
Preferred
Experience modeling steel frames or cantilevered structures Exposure to NBCC load development Interest in manufacturing, fabrication, and practical design Desire to grow into a lead structural role as the company scales
