The field work side of this job involves installing, servicing, and maintaining piping systems in new and existing buildings. These piping systems are used for fire protection purposes. During your 4-year apprenticeship, you will be working with a red seal journeyman tradesperson who will teach you how to do the job while you assist them with their installations. There are 3 levels of schooling, 8 weeks in duration each, that you will attend after accumulating the required amount of work hours to enroll.
It will take about 4 years to get up to $150,000/year. Please keep in mind that this position does involve years of hard physical labor, and lots of out-of-town work. You will be treated no differently than any other apprentice.
Once you’ve completed the 4-year apprenticeship and are fully capable of installing the sprinkler systems, and all that entails, you will move into an office role. Designing, estimating, project management, etc., and getting your P-Eng stamp with APEGA.
