Position: Junior Financial Analyst
Department: Finance General

The Junior Financial Analyst supports the Finance department by gathering, analyzing, and interpreting financial and statistical data to assist leadership in informed decision-making. Reporting to the Director of Finance, Clinical Records and Decision Support, this role contributes to accurate financial reporting, budgeting processes, and compliance with applicable healthcare reporting standards and regulatory requirements.
Working collaboratively with Finance staff and operational leaders, the Junior Financial Analyst plays a key role in monitoring financial performance, supporting organizational planning, and ensuring data integrity. The position provides exposure to hospital operations, financial systems, and healthcare funding models, while building foundational expertise under the guidance of senior team members.
This role requires strong analytical ability, attention to detail, and the capacity to communicate financial information clearly to both financial and non-financial stakeholders in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
Key Responsibilities: (including but not limited to the following)

Support month-end and year-end close processes across key areas (e.g., payroll, fixed assets, receivables, payables)

Assist in preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports and supporting documentation

Prepare journal entries in accordance with applicable accounting standards, assist with reconciliations and investigate variances

Support budget variance analysis and reporting for department managers

Compile financial, statistical and benchmarking data for internal and external reporting requirements and to support financial planning

Assist in preparing business cases, financial summaries, and briefing materials

Assist with operating and capital budget planning processes

Support development and maintenance of budgeting templates and systems

Assist in preparing financial forecasts based on operational and funding inputs

Assist with financial and statistical submissions to external agencies (e.g., Ministry of Health, Ontario Health)

Support data validation and performance monitoring activities

Assist with audit preparation, including schedules and supporting documentation

Proactively identify opportunities to improve reporting accuracy, processes, and data integrity
Qualifications

The ideal candidate will hold a Bachelorβs degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field (required), and be progressing toward a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation (preferred)

Experience in financial analysis, accounting, or a related field (co-op or internship experience considered)

Experience in healthcare, public sector, or government environments is an asset

Familiarity with healthcare financial reporting standards (e.g., MIS, OHRS) is an asset

Experience with financial systems (e.g., Meditech Expanse or similar ERP systems) is an asset

Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, formulas, lookups)

Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, PowerPoint)

Ability to work with financial systems and large datasets

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
