Job Description:

HR Project Partners is currently accepting résumés for a Payroll/Junior Accountant on behalf of one of our clients. This role will support the Senior Site Accountant with payroll processing, accounting operations, financial analysis, and compliance activities, including month-end, year-end, and audit support.

This is a full-time position, located in Gander, NL.

Essential Job Functions:

Payroll

  • Process regular payroll cycles accurately and on time;
  • Maintain employee payroll records and payroll system data;
  • Create employee personnel files and populate with onboarding paperwork and all supporting documentation for payroll adjustments;
  • Process payroll adjustments, retro pay, bonuses, and terminations;
  • Calculate and track vacation accruals and statutory entitlements, conduct quarterly vacation audits and adjust as required;
  • Prepare ROEs and support payroll year-end (T4s, T4As, RL-1 if applicable);
  • Prepare payroll GL entry with data from payroll provider;
  • Respond to payroll inquiries within established procedures;
  • Support payroll-related audits and compliance reviews;
  • Communicate payroll errors and adjustments to Human Resources in a timely manner to facilitate proactive communication with the affected employee(s); and
  • Benefit program administration.

Accounting & Month-End Support

  • Prepare routine journal entries;
  • Assist with month-end close activities;
  • Assist with bank and payroll reconciliations;
  • Review GL accounts and investigate variances to forecast;
  • Assist with maintaining organized financial records and support schedules;
  • Assist with GST/HST and other statutory filings; and
  • Support Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable as required.

Financial Analysis & Reporting

  • Assist with financial analysis and management reports;
  • Assist with month-over-month and year-over-year variance analysis;
  • Compile financial data to support internal reporting;
  • Assist with budgeting and forecast tracking;
  • Identify trends, anomalies, or discrepancies and escalate appropriately; and
  • Support payroll cost, labour, and benefit analysis reporting.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Diploma or degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance, or a related field;
  • Coursework or certification in Payroll Administration is considered an asset (i.e., PCP/CPB from the National Payroll Institute);
  • Additional training in bookkeeping, financial systems, or HR/payroll software is beneficial;
  • 1–3 years of experience in payroll processing, accounting support, or a combined finance/administrative role with full-cycle payroll in a multi-employee environment (hourly and salaried) is preferred;
  • Hands-on experience with:
  • Payroll systems or payroll service providers;
  • General ledger entries and reconciliations;
  • Accounts Payable/Accounts Receivable support;
  • Month-end and year-end close activities;
  • Exposure to statutory reporting (T4s, T4As, ROEs, GST/HST filings) is an asset; and
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment with a high degree of accuracy.
