About This Opportunity The PMO Intern at Hitachi Rail will leverage AI technologies to identify and address project management challenges by automating and enhancing key project processes. The intern will focus on building AI-powered solutions that optimize project implementation, improve financial controls, streamline risk management, and improve stakeholder communication. By aligning AI use cases with core project management functions, the intern will contribute to improved scope management, resource forecasting, cost management, and schedule management and helping Associate Project Managers and Project Managers.

This position is ideal for someone interested in AI applications in project management, looking to gain hands-on experience in a real-world project environment

Key Accountabilities

  • Support Project Managers and Associate Project Managers throughout the project lifecycle, including planning, execution, and monitoring.
  • Collaborate with the PMO and project teams to identify repetitive, manual, and time-consuming tasks that could benefit from AI automation or augmentation, develop and document practical AI use cases based on business needs.
  • Analyze project management workflows and data to uncover inefficiencies, performance issues, or opportunities for AI-driven improvements.
  • Contribute to the implementation of AI and business intelligence solutions (e.g., Python scripts) to automate recurring PMO reporting tasks.
  • Prepare clear documentation and present outcomes of AI pilot initiatives, including findings, solution designs, and recommendations for broader adoption.
  • Support awareness and training efforts to drive the understanding and adoption of AI solutions within the PMO and project teams.

Key Requirements

  • Successful candidates should be working towards a Bachelor’s or Master’s program in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Project Management, or a related field.
  • Completion of the second or third year of the undergraduate degree, or currently pursuing a master’s degree
  • Solid understanding of AI/ML principles, algorithms, frameworks and technologies.
  • Familiarity with MS Office tools, Power Apps and Phyton for business intelligence.
  • Familiarity with API integrations and low-code/no-code automation platforms (e.g., Microsoft Power Automate) is an asset.
  • Excellent analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work 40 hours per week in a hybrid environment for the duration of the internship, including at least two in-office days per week (specific days may vary based on team needs).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Co-op student available for an 8-month term, with at least one additional quarter or semester of coursework remaining after the completion of the internship.
  • Exposure to Generative AI and prompt engineering techniques.
  • Experience in process mapping and optimization.
  • Interest in operational excellence, process improvement, and business automation.
  • Certification in project management (e.g., PMP) is considered a plus.
  • Proficiency in Spanish is preferred.
