About Alberta Investment Management Corporation (AIMCo)

Top Canadian institutional investor with PE platform

Full Description

Alberta Investment Management Corporation (AIMCo) is one of Canada’s largest and most sophisticated institutional investment managers, overseeing more than $195 billion in assets on behalf of pension, endowment, insurance, government, and specialty fund clients across Alberta. Since its establishment in 2008, AIMCo has built a global investment platform with offices in Edmonton, Calgary, Toronto, London, and Luxembourg, supported by a culture grounded in excellence, integrity, collaboration, and long-term value creation. With a mandate to help its clients secure better financial futures for the Albertans they serve, AIMCo has developed a reputation for disciplined investing, deep institutional expertise, and the ability to compete successfully on a global stage across both public and private markets.

AIMCo’s Private Equity team manages ~$14 billion built around a hybrid investment strategy, with a current allocation of approximately 60% to fund investments and 40% to co-investments. The team invests across a diversified range of sectors, including financial services, healthcare, consumer, technology, software, business services, and industrials, with a focus on mid-to-large-market companies across North America, Europe, and Asia. The platform is anchored by a concentrated group of top-tier fund partners and a highly selective approach to co-investments.

AIMCo is now seeking a talented Associate to join its Private Equity team in Calgary. The Associate will contribute to the evaluation, execution, and ongoing management of private equity investments across diverse industries, geographies, and investment structures. Working closely with internal stakeholders and external investment partners, the Associate plays an important role in supporting investment recommendations and ensuring the effective execution and oversight of investment opportunities through investment research, financial analysis and valuation, due diligence and transaction execution, and portfolio oversight and monitoring. In this highly collaborative environment and team-based approach to deals, the Associate will have a chance to gain exposure to all aspects of a deal cycle.

The ideal candidate is a high-performing finance or investment professional with 2-4+ years of relevant experience in private equity, investment banking, transaction services, or management consulting. They will bring strong financial modelling, valuation, research, quantitative, and problem-solving capabilities, along with a demonstrated interest in analyzing businesses across diverse sectors and markets. Beyond technical strength, AIMCo is seeking a candidate who is hardworking, self-starting, intellectually curious, detail-oriented, humble, and team-oriented and can thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Strong communication skills, sound judgment, and the capacity to build effective relationships across internal and external stakeholders will be essential to success in the role.

Based in Calgary, this opportunity offers the chance to join one of Canada’s premier institutional investors at an exciting stage of growth and evolution. For an ambitious investment professional seeking broad private equity exposure, access to global investment opportunities, a collaborative and high-performing team culture, and long-term career development within a world-class institution, AIMCo represents a compelling and highly rewarding platform.
