Job Summary

The Business Analyst Intern will support the assessment of workflows, systems, and tools, gather feedback from staff to uncover operational challenges, analyze results to gather insights, and help design roadmaps toward more efficient, sustainable, and mission-aligned operations. They will also help research, implement and optimize workflow and system improvements with a focus on operational efficiency, technology adoption, and cross-departmental collaboration.

This is an excellent hands-on learning opportunity ideal for a student interested in process improvement, change management, and technology or system integration.

This is a 8-week Term.

Tasks & Responsibilities

  • Process Optimization: Assist with internal audits of tools, systems, and workflows across key functions to identify, evaluate, and implement opportunities for process improvement to streamline operations, reduce bottlenecks, and enhance overall organizational productivity.
  • Needs Assessment & Roadmaps: Help synthesize findings into clear, actionable reports or summaries with recommendations and roadmaps for improvement.
  • Technology Evaluation & Integration: Support the evaluation and deployment of tools and technologies (e.g., collaboration software, automation solutions, productivity tracking systems) that foster improved productivity across teams.
  • Cross-Department Collaboration: Work closely with colleagues across departments to understand operational pain points, inefficiencies, and needs to identify and implement improvement strategies.
  • Change Management: Support the implementation of process changes and new systems including rollout strategy, development and delivery of training programs and resources, and smooth transition for employees.
  • Data Analysis & Reporting: Help monitor and analyze productivity data to evaluate the effectiveness of current tools and strategies.

Your Growth Journey

The Business Analyst Intern will build expertise in process improvement, data analysis, and project management while learning to optimize workflows and integrate digital tools that enhance collaboration and automation. Working across departments, they will strengthen communication and change management capabilities, gaining practical experience in implementing strategies and technology solutions that drive organizational productivity.

Supervision Plan

The Business Analyst Intern will work under the guidance of the Productivity Manager, who will provide clear performance expectations and deliverables for the term. Progress will be reviewed in regular check-ins, with formal evaluations at the midpoint and end of the internship.

Team Mentoring

The Business Analyst Intern will report to and work closely with the Productivity Manager, who will provide mentorship, training, and guidance on deliverables and projects. The intern will also collaborate with the Insights & Innovation team, Opportunity Calgary Investment Fund team, Economic Intelligence department, and other CED staff to gain input and support, ensuring high-quality work that delivers value to the organization and its stakeholders.

Field of Study

Currently enrolled in post-secondary education (Business Administration, Management, Information Systems, or a related field).

Key Skills & Competencies

  • Experience with enterprise productivity software, e.g. Microsoft 365, Monday.com, Microsoft Copilot, Dynamics 365, PowerBI etc. & AI Tools (Copilot); familiarity with CRM tools an asset.

Canada Summer Job Eligibility

  • Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment.
