As a CPA Articling Student â Private Company Audit and Assurance (January 2027), youâll work with private businesses and NPOs and see firsthand how your work helps clients understand their financial picture. The Role As a CPA Articling Student in our Private Company group, youâll build the core skills that set you up for long-term success in public practice. Youâll work with a mix of ownerâmanaged businesses and notâforâprofit organizations, giving you exposure to real financial stories and the people behind them. Your work will span audits, reviews, compilations, and yearâend engagements, and youâll learn how each component fits together to support clients in understanding and managing their operations.
Throughout your journey, youâll be supported by seniors, managers, and partners who take the time to teach, guide, and help you grow into a trusted advisor â one step at a time.
Student opportunities for the Pre-Approved External Audit Path in our Private Company group are available starting January 2027. What You'll Do
- Work as a core team member on audit, review and compilation engagements for private companies and NPO's.
- Assist with year-end financial statements and related notes for a variety of private businesses and not-for-profit organizations.
- Gain exposure to a variety of corporate, personal, and other tax filings, building practical experience that compliments your year-end work.
- Communicate with clients to request information and clarify details as part of engagement workflows.
- Participate in client calls or meetings, seeing how partners and managers guide clients and NPO leaders through their financial information..
- Build a broad understanding of how the entire engagement fits together, from planning to file completion.
- Collaborate closely with your team, ask questions often, and participate in debriefs and coaching conversations so youâre always learning.
- Stay organized and manage your tasks so you can meet deadlines in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Participate in firm-wide initiatives, training, and our Team Development and Performance Management Program.
What You Bring
- An undergraduate degree (completed or in progress) that meets the CPA Professional Education Program (CPA PEP) prerequisites.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, and a willingness to ask questions when you're unsure.
- An interest in private businesses, entrepreneurship, and not-for-profit organizations â youâre curious about how businesses are built and run.
- A detail-oriented, organized approach to your workâ you take pride in doing quality work and understanding the "why".
- Enjoyment of working with people, not just numbers â you value relationships as much as results.
- Critical thinking skills â you like analyzing information, spotting patterns, and thinking through issues logically.
- A team-first, positive attitude and a âlet me try, and then Iâll ask for helpâ mindset.
