Full Description

Human Resources Intern Responsibilities:

  • Assist in recruiting for summer staff and volunteer positions including interviews and reference checks
  • Assist with onboarding and orientations for new staff and volunteers
  • Assist with training of summer staff and volunteers
  • Manage staff certifications and upload into UKG Software
  • Evaluation of onboarding process

Administrative:

  • Assist with the creation of training sessions for day camp staff and volunteers
  • Upload staff certifications into UKG for document management to keep accurate personnel files
  • Track staff and volunteer progress in training software
  • Assist in promotion of Westside's Mission, Vision, Values
  • General office administrative duties as required
  • Attend meetings as required

Risk Management:

  • Complete First Aid/CPR and related documentation as required
  • Report unsafe hazards for staff, volunteers and patrons
  • Maintain and promote Westside Healthy and Safety Standards
  • Keep customers informed of policies and procedures to ensure safety and respect standards are met

Skills Required:

  • Strong attention to detail skills ensuring accuracy and quality in tasks
  • Strong organizational and planning skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to pivot between tasks, learn new tools and adapt to changing environments
  • Ability to work within systems including UKG, When to Work and Bridge
  • Ability to work independently

Physical/Psychological Demands:

  • Ability to maintain discretion with confidential information

Employment Term:

  • May - June (8 week position) 35 hours/week
  • Hours vary based on recruiting timelines and schedules

Requirements:

  • Must be available for mandatory training in June (Times vary- daytime, evening & weekends required for training dates)
  • Must have current Alberta Approved First Aid training agency - CSA Standard Z1210-17 Intermediate First Aid and must be valid through to June 30, 2026
  • Successful applicant must have a clear Vulnerable Sector Search completed at their own cost
  • The successful candidate must hold high ethical standards as they are working with vulnerable populations and has access to confidential information.

Experience and Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education (or currently enrolled in); Human Resources, Business Administration, Recreation and Leisure and/or other related fields
  • Experience in presenting content to 100 people
  • Experience in an office setting is an asset

This position may be funded by the Government of Canada- Summer Job Grant program. Grant eligibility requires the successful candidate to be between the ages of 15Y – 30Y and legally entitled to work in Canada. International students are not eligible.
