Role: Human Resources Summer Student

Status: Full-Time, Fixed-Term (8 weeks, Summer 2026)

Hours: 35 hours/ week, Monday to Friday

Reporting to: Director, People & Culture

Compensation: $17.60 hourly, plus 6% pay in lieu of vacation, and 4% pay in lieu of benefits

About the Opportunity

Reporting to the Director, People & Culture, the Human Resources Summer Student will work closely with the People & Culture team on meaningful projects that support both employees and organizational goals. This role offers a dynamic and hands-on introduction to the field of human resources within a healthcare and unionized environment.

You will gain exposure to the full employee lifecycle, including recruitment, onboarding, employee relations, learning and development, and HR operations. You will help us foster an inclusive and engaging workplace culture while contributing to a positive, equitable and accessible employee experience.

This is a fully on-site position, with all hours of work occurring at Casey House .

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Recruitment & Onboarding

  • Collaborate on job postings and assist with distributing them across various platforms.

  • Review resumes and assist with initial candidate screening and shortlisting.

  • Help coordinate interview schedules and logistics.

  • Support onboarding activities such as preparing welcome materials and organizing orientation sessions.

Employee Relations & Engagement

  • Assist in maintaining up-to-date employee records and HR databases.

  • Support the coordination and delivery of staff engagement initiatives and events.

  • Contribute to initiatives that promote a safe, inclusive, and equitable workplace.

  • Demonstrate sensitivity when working with confidential, client-related, and employee-related information.

  • Help respond to routine HR-related inquiries and direct employees to appropriate resources.

  • Participate in projects that align with Casey House’s values, including efforts related to wellness, belonging, and cultural safety.

Learning, Development

  • Assist in organizing learning and development sessions, workshops, and training logistics.

  • Track training participation and help summarize key learnings and feedback.

Administrative Support:

  • Provide general administrative support to the People & Culture team.

  • Support policy-related work, including document organization, formatting, and version tracking.

  • Assist with preparing reports, dashboards, or summaries using HR data, as appropriate.

  • Help organize and maintain HR-related documentation, electronic files, and shared drives.

About You

  • Currently enrolled in, or a recent graduate of, a degree or diploma program in Human Resources, Business Administration, Psychology, Education, Industrial/Organizational Psychology, Labour Studies, or a related field.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with staff at all levels.

  • Detail-oriented with excellent organizational and time-management skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); familiarity with databases or HRIS systems is an asset.

  • Comfortable working with data, documents, and processes, and willing to learn new systems and tools.

  • A proactive, curious, and adaptable attitude with a genuine interest in HR and People & Culture work.

  • A commitment to equity, inclusion, and fostering a respectful, learning-oriented organizational culture.
