ABOUT THE ROLE
The Junior Accountant works under general supervision performing and assisting the Senior Accountant in a variety of accounting duties to ensure the accurate and timely preparation of financial information and reports. This position performs a broad range of accounting duties and supports the Senior Accountant.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Record monthly bank transactions (i.e. service charges, monthly leases
- Perform SA Reconciliation with GL entries.
- Reporting activities according to specific deadlines.
- Reconcile assigned general ledger accounts.
- Maintain filing of bank statements and AP payments
- Reconcile vendor statements
- Verify employee expense claims and per diems for processing
- Assist with batch reviews as assigned
- Ensures monthly bill payments for various utility accounts are maintained
- Maintain financial records for related entities as assigned
- Prepare monthly reports for revenues, rent receivables and accounts receivable balances.
- Assist Senior Accountant with month end closing processes and preparation of financial statements.
- Assist in the annual and monthly financial planning and reporting process, working with the Senior Accountant, Finance Director, and department leaders.
- Assist in the year-end audit process.
- Reconcile all trust account balances and ensure EFTs are recorded appropriately.
- Track revenues from all government agencies per established confirmations
- Other duties as assigned.
KEY REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience in an accounting role.
- Knowledge and experience with Accounting software such as ACCPAC is an asset.
- Experience in a First Nations community is a definite asset.
- Diploma or degree in Accounting or Business Administration.
- Working toward an accounting designation is preferred.
- An equivalent combination of education and work experience may be considered.
- Basic knowledge of standards and best practices pertaining to accounting.
- Proficient in various computer software applications, including Microsoft Excel.
- Basic proficiency with Microsoft programs (Excel, Word, Outlook) and finance modules.
- Organization and analytical skills, with attention to detail.
- Demonstrated customer service skills and the ability to work in a team environment.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
