Role Description The Jr. Mechanical Engineer will support the design, development, and testing of mechanical components and assemblies for marine robotic systems. Day-to-day responsibilities include creating and updating CAD models and drawings, assisting with prototype fabrication, performing basic analyses, and participating in design reviews. The role also involves collaborating with senior engineers on R&D projects, documenting design changes, and supporting product improvements based on customer feedback and field performance. This is a full-time, hybrid position based in Torrance, CA, with some flexibility for work from home. The engineer will work cross-functionally with electronics, software, and operations teams to ensure reliable, manufacturable designs.

Qualifications

  • Strong foundation in Mechanical Engineering, with knowledge of fundamental mechanics, materials, and manufacturing processes.
  • Skills in Machine Design for small mechanical assemblies, mechanisms, and marine or ruggedized components.
  • Proficiency with Computer-Aided Design (CAD) tools for 3D modeling, drawings, and basic tolerance/fit analysis.
  • Ability to support Project Management activities such as task tracking, documentation, and coordination with cross-functional teams.
  • Interest and skills in Research and Development (R&D), including prototyping, testing, and iterative design.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Hands-on experience with lab tools, prototyping, and basic mechanical testing; familiarity with marine or robotics applications is a plus.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a collaborative, hybrid work environment.
