About the Role
The Amir Group of Companies (Amir Quality Meats; Sierra Custom Foods; Amir Specialty Poultry) is one of Canada’s largest, and most trusted, independent processors and distributors of zabiha halal meats. The Role: We are looking for a detail-oriented and motivated Junior Accountant to join our finance team. Reporting to the Controller, you will play a key role in supporting day-to-day accounting operations across accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger functions. This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career accounting professional to develop their skills within a fast-paced consumer food company.
Key Responsibilities
General Ledger & Reporting
- Reconcile auxiliary sub-ledgers to the general ledger, identifying and resolving discrepancies.
- Support the preparation and filing of GST/HST returns in compliance with CRA requirements.
- Perform bank reconciliations
Audit & Compliance
- Assist during internal and external audits by organizing and providing required supporting documentation.
- Manage and maintain accurate, organized, and efficient filing systems for all financial records.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Collaborate closely with other departments to facilitate information sharing and resolve finance-related queries.
- Support and liaise with other divisions as required on an occasional basis.
- Perform other duties as assigned by management.
Intercompany Transfers and reporting
- Process, reconcile, and analyze intercompany transactions
Qualifications
Education and Certification
- CPA or working towards one
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related business field
Technical Skills
- Excel Proficiency: Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel (e.g. VLOOKUP’s, pivot tables, data models
- Accounting software: Familiarity with systems like Microsoft Business Central and other ERP’s
- GAAP Knowledge: Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles
- Audit experience: Ability to support analysis and reconciliations during audit processes
Soft Skills & Core Competencies
- Attention to detail: High accuracy in data entry and spotting discrepancies in financial records.
- Analytical Skills: Ability to analyze numbers, reconcile accounts, and solve financial puzzles
- Communication: Clear written and verbal skills for explaining financial details to vendors or internal teams.
