About Compass Construction Resources Ltd.

Small firm with construction accounting training program

Full Description

ABOUT COMPASS

Compass Construction Resources Ltd. is a construction company specializing in complex renovations, additions, building system retrofits, construction management, general contracting, and design-build projects across Southern Ontario and the GTA. We work on high-profile institutional projects in occupied spaces and take pride in delivering quality with a tight, collaborative team. The company combines the professionalism, skills, and resources of a larger organization with the hands-on involvement and responsiveness of a smaller firm.

THE ROLE

This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to kickstart or build their accounting career in a real-world, hands-on environment. You will join a small, focused finance team and quickly take ownership of core accounting functions including accounts payable, vendor processing, bank reconciliations, statutory remittances, job costing support, and month-end close preparation. You will work directly with the Department Lead, receive on-the-job training, and grow your skills in a company that invests in its people. If you have a positive attitude, a willingness to learn, and the ability to adapt to any situation, we want to hear from you.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

• Own the full accounts payable function: vendor invoices, coding, approval routing, aged payables review, and payment-run preparation

• Process recurring vendor invoices and utility/service costs

• Support accounts receivable as directed by the Department Lead

• Prepare monthly bank reconciliations and maintain clean support for review

• Prepare statutory remittance support: HST, WSIB, EHT, union remittances, payroll, and benefits

• Prepare job cost accrual (JCR) support and project cost allocations

• Assist with monthly financial package and management reporting support

• Maintain checklist status, evidence folders, and audit-ready support

• Assist with annual filings and year-end support

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

• Post-secondary education in accounting, finance, and/or business (required)

• Minimum 1 year of accounting experience preferred — recent graduates with strong accounting foundations are welcome

• Strong Excel skills: lookups, pivot tables, SUMIFS, and reconciliations

• Exposure to A/P, bank reconciliations, journal entries, and month-end support

• Strong attention to detail and ability to meet recurring deadlines

• A positive attitude, willingness to learn, and ability to adapt to any situation

• Experience with a payroll module or A/P module in any accounting system is an asset

WHY JOIN COMPASS

• Competitive compensation package with great benefits that start on Day 1

• Hybrid and flexible work arrangements available (pre-approved)

• We train and make you ready — real opportunity to learn construction accounting from the ground up

• Great company culture with a collaborative, supportive team

• A company that helps you grow and supports your long-term career development
