Our client is seeking a Junior Accountant reporting to the Director of Development Accounting to join the Land Development Department located in North Toronto. This role requires the candidate who is highly self-motivated to thrive in a fast-pace and entrepreneurial environment with a strong interest in the Canadian real estate market. We are looking for someone who thinks outside the box to find the best approach to achieve results. Someone who is proactive, considers the bigger picture, and leads by example. This person will help oversee a very exciting and diverse portfolio of land development projects.
Academic/Education Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business or Accounting
- CPA or equivalent an asset
Qualifications and Required Skills/Experience:
- 1-2+ years of experience in full cycle accounting, including preparation of monthly bank reconciliations and processing of accounts payable.
- Experience within the real estate industry is an asset (i.e. Development, property and/or commercial accounting). Experience with HST returns is an asset.
- Superb time management skills, organization and detail-orientation to manage several ongoing and new tasks/projects simultaneously.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills with ability to effectively communicate across all levels and functional areas of the company.
- Collaborative team player, passionate about the role, personal development, real estate and achieving larger business goals and objectives in a fast-paced environment
- Highly proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly in Microsoft Excel.
- Experience with NewStar is considered an asset.
Responsibilities and Expectations:
The specific duties and responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to the following:
- Collect, record and prepare deposit slip for deposit.
- Update bank accounts on a weekly basis for high volume of companies.
- Perform monthly bank reconciliations for high volume of companies.
- Perform accounts payable for high volume of companies.
- Track and reconcile lot discharges and house closings.
- Track, update and reconcile loan balances to external statements.
- Setup, track, and reconcile Letter of Credits for all projects.
- Setup accounts receivable invoices in Newstar.
- Process internal and external cash calls cheques.
- Process back charges for various projects.
- Reconcile intercompany accounts.
- Create and post journal entries.
- Preparation of HST returns monthly, quarterly or annually.
- Maintenance of the accounting records ensuring that they are completed on an accurate and timely basis in accordance with Canadian GAAP, Company standards and policies, and satisfy the auditor’s needs · Special projects as assigned.
Salary Range: $55,000 - $60,000
