Established AI-focused tech company; enterprise web solutions

Full Description

Company: ECA Tech Inc. / Listen MD AI Solutions Inc.

Location: Vaughan, ON (Remote / Hybrid)

Position Type: Full-Time, Permanent

Compensation: $50,000 – $55,000 CAD per year (Depending on experience)

Company Description

ECA Tech Inc. is a long-established technology company that delivers AI-first, cutting-edge web and software solutions, as well as support for securing private and government funding. Evolving since 1997 (formerly Albamerica Inc. and CanAmerica Tech), the company has a strong track record of high-quality results for Fortune 500 companies and leading marketing agencies across North America.

Today, we are driving an "AI-first" evolution, expanding our core capabilities into advanced generative AI and enterprise clinical utilities under our Listen MD bannerβ€”a high-performance, zero-retention AI clinical utility and documentation platform. Strategically, our modern software architecture is intentionally built on open-source, agile environments as we systematically pivot away from restrictive, legacy Microsoft technology stacks.

ECA Tech offers specialized expertise across four focused divisions: Mobile Synergies (mobile apps), Design Toronto Web (web design), 2SEO (digital marketing), and ECA Code (marketplace plugins). We position ourselves as a collaborative partner committed to client success rather than a traditional vendor.

Role Description

This is a unique, fast-paced full-time role based in Vaughan, ON. We are seeking a hungry, ambitious Junior PHP Developer who wants ground-floor, hands-on experience working at the intersection of enterprise e-commerce systems and cutting-edge open-source AI architecture.

Under the direct mentorship of our Senior Software Architect, you will divide your time between core applications and client web ecosystems. You will contribute directly to the backend of our proprietary medical AI application, while simultaneously building, maintaining, and developing custom extensions, modules, and themes for our enterprise CMS and e-commerce client pipelines (including Shopify, Magento, and Drupal).

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

  • Core Application Development: Write clean, optimized, and secure PHP code to maintain and extend features for our flagship AI platform.
  • E-Commerce & CMS Extensions: Develop, test, and deploy custom extensions, modules, integrations, and themes for Magento, Shopify (Liquid/APIs), and Drupal (PHP).
  • Database & Query Optimization: Assist in managing and optimizing relational databases (MySQL/PostgreSQL) to ensure low-latency application performance and enterprise-grade data security.
  • Front-End Integration: Collaborate with designers to integrate complex back-end logic with responsive user interfaces using HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, and modern front-end frameworks.
  • Git Workflow & CI/CD: Maintain structured version control using Git, participate in code reviews, and support automated testing and deployment pipelines.
  • Rapid Prototyping: Assist in connecting LLM APIs and modern AI automation tools into our existing web workflows.

Qualifications

Required Core Technical Skills:

  • Solid PHP Foundation: Strong understanding of Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) principles, clean architecture, Laravel MVC patterns, and SOLID design patterns in PHP.
  • Web Ecosystem Literacy: Direct exposure to, or a strong willingness to master, extension, plugin, or theme development within Shopify, Magento, and Drupal .
  • Database Management: Solid understanding of relational databases, structured SQL queries, and tools like MySQL or PostgreSQL.
  • Front-End Basics: Competency in HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, and interacting with RESTful APIs/JSON data.
  • The "Anti-Lock-in" Mindset: A strong interest or background in open-source development environments, aligning with our shift away from Microsoft enterprise platforms.

Professional & Eligibility Requirements:

  • Location: Must currently reside in Ontario in or around GTA and be legally authorized to work in Canada without sponsorship (Required for corporate grant funding compliance).
  • Education: Diploma or degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical/portfolio experience.
  • Mindset: A proactive problem-solver with strong attention to detail, a high capacity for continuous technical learning, and excellent communication skills.
  • Familiarity with Linux server environments, Docker, or basic Agile/Scrum workflows is an asset.

Why Join Us?

  • This is not a typical entry-level maintenance job. You will be working directly alongside a veteran industry Architect, gaining deep exposure to enterprise security protocols, government-compliant open-source tech stacks, and real-world Generative AI implementation. For an ambitious junior developer, this role offers an unmatched technical launchpad and significant room for rapid upward mobility as our platforms scale.
