DUTIESANDRESPONSIBILITIES: This research project examines Canadian immigration policies and programs, with a focus on understanding how immigration policies differ across provinces, how they have evolved over time, and their implications for provincial labour markets and future immigration policy development. The successful candidate will conduct a comprehensive literature review of Canadian immigration policies and programs, examine policy developments, interprovincial variations, and emerging challenges, identify research gaps, and synthesize evidence from academic and policy literature. The Research Assistant will also summarize research findings, prepare annotated bibliographies, assist with data collection and analysis as needed, and participate in regular meetings with the research team. Additional research-related duties may be assigned as required.

Position Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A motivated graduate or a fourth-year undergraduate student majoring in economics, public policy, political science, sociology or a related field with a genuine interest in understanding and improving immigration policies and outcomes in Canada.
  • Strong research, analytical, and communication (written and verbal) skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills, time management and problem-solving skills.
  • Attention to detail, ability to work independently.
  • Experience and proficiency with all Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).

Physical Demands Pay Grade As Per CUPE 2419 Salary Range As per CUPE 2419 Collective Agreement Status Term Work Hours

Approximately 104 hours over 13 weeks (an average of 8 hours per week). Hours are flexible, with more time expected before the start of the Fall 2026 semester and fewer hours during the academic term.
