Full Description

The Independent First Nations Alliance (IFNA) is seeking a dedicated Communications Intern to join our team. The Communications Intern assists in developing promotional materials, corporate webpages, coordinating meetings, and interacts with clients to effectively deliver IFNA’s message to the public and media. They must possess strong written and verbal communication skills and should have a knowledge of marketing principles.

Responsibilities:

  1. Coordinates the design, production, translation, printing and publishing of communications and graphic design products.

  2. Assists in writing and building digital communications products including web postings, emails, newsletters, social media posts, web forms, etc.

  3. Copies, edits, and proofreads communications products for internal and external audiences.

  4. Ensures timeliness, relevance, effective placement of content, and ease of access to information and updates.

  5. Works with other team members to coordinate events such as Chiefs Meetings, workshops, and conferences.

  6. Provides administrative support to the Communications department and Director of Strategic Initiatives.

  7. Participates in the organization of the communication team projects and products including maintaining filing systems, databases, and archives.

  8. Prepares meeting/event packages, attends meetings, and takes accurate minutes of discussions and decisions.

  9. Participates in multi-disciplinary teams assigned to special projects and work collaboratively with staff, and others.

  10. All employees who work at IFNA cover for each other during vacation, if someone is away sick or if there are demands on the organization that require extra time and effort to complete. This means occasionally they may be required to do tasks outside the normal scope of their position.

Position Requirements:

· Actively pursuing a bachelor's degree or diploma in Marketing, Communications, English, Public Relations, Journalism or other related field, preferably entering the third or fourth year.

· Must have excellent writing and editing skills.

· Be able to communicate clearly and effectively.

· Strong time-management and organization skills.

· Valid G class driver’s license, access to a vehicle.

· Familiarity with First Nations communities or organizations is required.

· Understanding of Indigenous history, traditions, and beliefs with the ability to implement cultural values and practices within the delivery of services; ability to speak one of the Indigenous dialects is an asset.

Note: Flexibility is key at IFNA. You may occasionally cover tasks outside your role, ensuring comprehensive support for our organization's mission.

Salary: $23.91 to $27.78 per hour
