Communications Specialist (Summer Intern) – Canada China Business Council

The Canada China Business Council (CCBC) is seeking a Communications Specialist to join its Corporate Head Office as a summer intern in Toronto. This position is part of CCBC’s Summer Internship Program and is funded through the Canada Summer Jobs program, an initiative of the Government of Canada.

Reporting to the Communications Manager and working closely with CCBC’s regional teams, the Communications Specialist will support the Council’s communications, marketing, and stakeholder engagement activities across its membership, events, programs, and public outreach initiatives. The successful candidate will contribute to content development, digital communications, marketing campaigns, and event promotion while developing practical experience in communications, stakeholder engagement, research, and project coordination. This role offers valuable exposure to strategic communications and member engagement within a national non-profit business organization.

Key Responsibilities

Includes but not limited to:

  • Assist in assessing CCBC programs, events, and services to determine communications and promotional needs
  • Support the development of content for digital marketing and outreach campaigns across email, web, and social media platforms
  • Contribute to the planning and implementation of marketing and communications strategies that promote CCBC initiatives, membership programs, and sector-specific activities
  • Prepare social media posts, updates, and digital assets that highlight current activities, event announcements, and member-focused initiatives
  • Track basic communications metrics and assist with post-campaign analysis to help evaluate engagement and outreach effectiveness
  • Assist in drafting and editing reports, briefs, presentations, website content, newsletters, and press releases
  • Support public relations activities, including preparing communications materials for stakeholders, members, and the general public
  • Conduct basic research, including public opinion and stakeholder sentiment analysis, to help identify emerging interests and communication opportunities
  • Provide logistical and communications support for CCBC events such as webinars, roundtables, workshops, and community engagement activities
  • Assist in organizing media opportunities, interview preparation materials, and related communications tasks, as required
  • Respond to general written or oral inquiries regarding CCBC’s programs and upcoming activities
  • Support the preparation of promotional materials, brochures, and digital assets to enhance awareness of CCBC initiatives
  • Provide general administrative support for the Corporate Office and CCBC Chapters, as required

Qualifications & Experience

  • Relevant experience in communications, marketing, public relations, digital media, stakeholder engagement, or a related field gained through academic, professional, volunteer, or project-based work
  • Educational background in communications, marketing, business, or a related discipline
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to develop clear, engaging, and audience-appropriate content across a variety of platforms
  • Experience creating content for websites, newsletters, social media, email campaigns, or other digital communications channels (such as WordPress, Mailchimp, Buffer)
  • Familiarity with social media platforms, content management systems, email marketing tools, graphic design software, or digital analytics tools is an asset (such as Adobe Creative Suite, Canva)
  • Strong research, organizational, and project coordination skills, with attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment while contributing to communications, marketing, and stakeholder engagement initiatives

Work Environment & Location

This role follows a hybrid work model. Candidates based in Toronto are preferred given the location of CCBC’s headquarters and core team activities; however, strong candidates based in Ottawa or other CCBC chapter centres in Canada (Montreal, Vancouver, Calgary, Halifax) are also encouraged to apply.
