Term: 8 weeks from June 29th-August 21st, 2026

Hours: 1.0 FTE 35 hours/week Monday-Friday

  • Must be flexible to cover some evening shifts (either Wednesday or Thursday until 8pm) and the occasional Saturday for special events.

Rate of Pay: $23.01/hour + 4% vacation pay per CUPE Local 5139

Responsibilities include:

  • Front desk duties:
  • Assisting patrons at the front desk, with a friendly and patient demeanour
  • Checking out materials and searching for titles
  • Helping patrons use the library online catalogue and access electronic resources
  • Reshelving library materials and keeping bookshelves organized
  • Assisting patrons on the public computers, their own devices, and with print/scan/fax services
  • Assisting patrons with our Tech Hub (digitization of photos, VHS, etc.)
  • Summer Reading Club Co-Coordinator duties:
  • Assisting staff with weekly Summer Reading Club activities
  • Assisting with program planning and craft preparation
  • Assisting participants (ages 5-12) with their weekly challenges, and supporting group management
  • Bookmobile support:
  • There will be opportunity to gain outreach experience by working on our Bookmobile delivering library services to the more rural areas of our valley, and participating at community events.

Requirements:

This position is funded through the Government of Canada’s Summer Jobs Program, therefore the successful candidate must:

  • Be between the ages of 15-30
  • Be a full-time student in secondary or post-secondary school, returning to school in fall 2026
  • Have a Social Insurance Number (SIN) and be able to legally work in Canada.
  • Be either a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment.

Ideal Qualifications:

  • Previous education and/or work-related experience delivering children’s programs.
  • Previous customer service work (or volunteer) experience.
  • High level of comfort working with technology, including helping patrons troubleshoot computer, phone, tablet, and printer issues.
  • Ability to carry out job functions with flexibility, creativity, and initiative.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with library staff and the public in the provision of quality library services.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills. Ability to be friendly and helpful with all ages.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
